PAGE vs Region[]

I am wondering, if Region[] should substitute the PAGE XML. Here are a few considerations (I guess we will discuss this on monday):

• if we provide the url (or a stream) to the XML, we have full support of all PAGE attributes
• everyone will and can then implement their Region class as they need it
• this keeps the interface shallow (actually even more than it is now because we do not need the Region class)

so if Region[] replaces the XML, my pull request #1 is intended - otherwise we do not need the additional processLayout function as we can read and write to the XMLs

yes, this is definitely to be discussed on Monday! There might be use cases where only parts of an image shall be analyzed. Then, it seems simpler to pass such a region object instead of producing a page XML that only contains the respective region. Let's see what the other partners, especially NCSR, think about it.
