[Suggestion] Lower Boss Item Drop Rates #10

Suggestion: Lower boss item drop rates for higher tier raids (particularly Tier 7 and above).

With the HP and Damage increases of Tier 9 items, it is much easier to auto-raid immediately after a soft reset through all available raids without getting stopped by Anubis or Seer due to the higher HP and base damage given by TIER 9 items (raider leveling or special builds are no longer required). Furthermore, first boss kills give many more item drops and raiding is much faster (< 7 min for my raiders to finish all raids including new Tier 9 raid after soft reset) than having to wait for the 60 min global raid timer to get a drop rate chance without the first time drop bonus. Thus, the boss item drop rates seem at least 10 times higher than before.

One more change is coming to beta soon, which is that items from the current raid tier don't start dropping until you've killed at least one boss from that raid tier. This is important because the first boss (from all raids) is always designed to be difficult from the standpoint of killing it purely with items from previous tiers equipped.

Once that is in, I think the effective increased drop rate (and probably AA/hour, too) from previous raids is much less of a problem, because by that time you don't really need that many core items from previous raids anymore, except for artifacts, set pieces, and specific useful items, and in those cases we're fine with implicitly having the drop rate increased. In fact I think it may be a kind of cool milestone, when new players know once they finally get around to farming gear from raid 9, everything before will be a lot faster (might motivate people to push for progress a lot more, instead of afk farming a lot of gold and AA, etc.) But I may be overlooking something. What do you think?

Thank you, it sounds like you have put a lot of thought into this patch. Pushing the global item drop tier back until defeating at least one boss from that tier sounds like a great idea. And I agree that the farming gear from Raid 9 is a good incentive for pushing players to make it that far since it will make all the previous boss item drops much easier to get. I just wanted to make sure that you were aware of the potentially increased boss item drop rate with the new Tier 9 items. Thanks again for the detailed reply.

It's definitely appreciated. I'm leaving this open until I have implemented that so we don't accidentally forget about it or something.

I do not see any reason to reduce lower tier drop rates but it would be good idea to let us farm tier 9 rare and artifacts from raid only or at least after beating last boss starting from tier 9.

Perhaps the AA rewards from higher tier raids could be increased to limit soft resets, or some time limit placed on soft resets. I was able to beat the Arcane Manufactory at ~level 80, WAIR 10. With tier 7 drops I can now clear every raid at level 50. It's gotten very easy to grind raids by soft resetting, especially with the low AA rewards from raids.

Unfortunately, AA farming in general is a bit messy at the moment, and will probably need a bit of a rework in 1.x.5 patch (perhaps 1.1.5?). I don't think we have time to properly rework this for 1.1

Anyways closing this issue for now as it was originally about the loot dropping adjustments for new items, which is implemented in next patch.
