If you hire a mercenary and equip an item (sometimes you need to close and reopen merc window), then shift click the item to take it off, the game puts it back in your inventory, but the item stays on the merc
Essentially the merc cosmetic item slots only change when you close/open the mercenary building windows (both merc list and their equips), so by shift clicking an item in the merc cosmetic slot, the game still shows it in the slot, but also gives you a new one in your inventory. This bug is both on live and beta versions.

The user vorakk posted this under "[BUG} item dup #613" on the main bug report page, but the bug report is being closed to take the post out of the spotlight. While users that would abuse this bug are likely to cheat to get items a different way, it still would be good to fix.
Currently, on both v1.0.5i and v1.1beta2 any items that can be equipped as cosmetics can be duplicated using this bug. I have replicated this as follows:
Place an item of the same cosmetic type as the item being duplicated in the last equipment slot of one of the raiders.
Place the item to be duplicated in the cosmetic slot of a different raider of the same type
Drag the item to be duplicated to the last equipment slot containing the item of the same cosmetic type (from Step 1)
Without clicking anything else, drag the item of the same cosmetic type (from Step 1) in the fourth equipment slot to the cosmetic slot containing the item to be duplicated
Item being duplicated will replace the item in the fourth equipment slot and the item previously in the fourth equipment slot will stack in the second raider's cosmetic slot
