Plugin Broke Itself, Unknown Cause or Fix #9

Closed benduckwdesign closed 10 years ago

benduckwdesign commented 10 years ago

Now with whatever command I try to use, it just says "Use /TC help for info".

I thought the problem might be the configuration file, so I deleted it. No luck.

This error also appears at startup: screen shot 2014-03-03 at 12 51 30 pm

I am beginning to wonder if it is my build, but why would that be the case?

Travja commented 10 years ago

Sorry for the later response. The line this is occurring on says that the plugins data folder is missing.. Did you rename it or do something with it?

It really shouldn't make a difference as the plugin is designed to replace it.

benduckwdesign commented 10 years ago

No, I haven't messed with the folder. (Have you changed the name and it's not generating another folder?)

And it even has the config.yml inside, so I don't know what the issue is.

Have you tried reinstalling or installing on another server.

I don't have another server to do that with, and it wouldn't help me because I still need to find the problem before I can use it with this one. If I installed it on another server it wouldn't be my server, so I don't see your point here.

How would I reinstall it? I already let it regenerate the config.yml once, doesn't seem to fix the issue.

Reinstalling is as easy as getting the jar again and putting it on the server, no need to regen config a, just make sure you have the latest jar

The same error occurred after re-downloading the file and placing in in my Plugins folder. I'm kind of lost as of what to do here. I'm going to download a different version of Spigot/Bukkit to see if it works, I should be able to tell you shortly.

Ok, that might have something to do with it, running spigot and all... Though it shouldn't have much of an effect..

I may have fixed the issue.

I deleted the Trading Cards folder and regenerated it, seems to fix the problem. Something must have been wrong with my config.yml, but I have no idea what it was. Maybe you could test around and see how well your plugin handles the .yml in different situations? Maybe there needs to be an exception for when the configuration can't be read... or better yet, why it got corrupted in the first place. :I

If I encounter this error again I'll send my config.yml straight to you.

Can card names include spaces and numbers? I did a card after myself "miniluigi008" and another card named "Red_Shell" which turned into "Red Shell" in the config.

I'm not sure it was entirely config related. The data folder itself might not have been the right name or something, who knows. :P Yes, those card names are valid :D

Well, anyways, thanks for your awesome plugin, lol xD Now I can get back to trading. :D Sorry for bothering you.

And eh, just a quick suggestion... Could you add the ability to do card battles? Example...

MrSteve wants to battle MrEnderman. MrSteve uses "/tc battle MrEnderman" MrEnderman sees MrSteve's request and uses "/tc accept" (or "/tc deny") MrSteve holds the card he wants to battle with (Enderdragon) and uses "/tc confirm" MrEnderman holds the card he wants to battle with (Goomba) and uses "/tc confirm"

The plugin then detects which card is stronger, and...

MrSteve wins the battle, getting MrEnderman's Goomba card. Or something like that. I mean, that's a really simple setup.

Another idea maybe, would be for the battle to take turns on who picks the first card (while having it tell the other player) and have multiple rounds, that way it's a bit more strategic. I just wanted to tell you, even though the plugin is called Trading Cards. My players kinda got riled up, built an arena, and then had a card reader and stuff, but I thought this might be easier for when you can't trust the card reader.

Forgot to mention that it would be awesome if you added a "health" argument to cards. :P

Also, if and when you do implement battling, could you also make status modifier cards? For example, status cards that can be used on other cards that increase health, attack, etc. of that card (but only in the inventory, not in the database)

Ok, so I'm going to start work on the battle system, don't know exactly how you want it worked out. So anyway, I've come seeking advice. Anything you think should be implemented, feel free to say. I'll also be adding decks as these two things should go nicely together

benduckwdesign commented 10 years ago

So maybe battle of the decks? It seems from memory that trying to craft items using items with lore is pretty much near impossible, so maybe the deck could be a 9x1 version of the card binder, where the order of cards goes from left to right. I'm not quite sure how you want to do that, but it seems most logical.

Also, that would make battling easier, so instead of saying "hold a card" it would say "hold a deck." and in the appropriate situations say "this is not a deck!", etc.

I think for battling, pretty much what I mentioned before "/tc battle <if money, then enter amount here> <match/single>" Then it battles the cards according to their order in the deck.

There are 2 wager types and 2 wager subtypes:

match: cards = With match, the winner gets the whole deck of the opposite player at the end (you lose all your cards) match: money = With match, the winner gets the wager at the end (you keep more money)

single: cards = With single, the winner gets each card that is beaten individually (the option to keep your stronger cards) single: money = With single, the winner gets the specified wager for EACH card that is beaten (you lose more money)

It needs to calculate the money the player needs differently depending on which type you choose, for instance:

/tc battle miniluigi008 money 100 single

The player needs $900 (or in my case, star coins) even though he might not lose it all

/tc battle miniluigi008 money 100 match

The player needs $100 even though he might not lose any of it

So, both players have to agree on the wager (it would notify the other player.)

Heyyy, thanks for asking me for advice. I really appreciate it.

Also, do the people who join Bukkit and Spigot and are a bit younger than the supposed age limit annoy you any? They annoy me just because they tend to spam up plugin pages with stupid comments, and they don't really know what they're doing

It actually needs to be this way for both players (since for single they'll be paying out to each other for each card.)

so if you don't have enough money it should say "You don't have enough money ($900) to battle miniluigi008!"
