Textual definition

A female-heterogametic sex chromosome system originating from a B chromosome which acquired a role as a W sex chromosome as it occurs only in females and not in males, and it seems to carry a dominant female determining allele (molecular details yet unknown). The only known case is the New Zealand frog, Leiopelma hochstetteri. Another possible (suspected) case would be in tetra fish Astyanax scabripinnis.

Additional context

By analogy, in Astyanax mexicanus, a B chromosome has been found to carry a gdf6 gene duplicate which seems to determine a male sex in this fish. This situation may be denoted as ♂Y0/♀00.
