Official upgrade possible after tweaks installed? #161

I bought a car recently with tweaks installed specifically AA Auto and the Speedometer. Firmware was 55.x.

Anyways, since the car had the old 1A USB ports, I took it to a Mazda dealer to get the firmware upgraded and also have that new USB hardware box installed, as well as officially installing the AA application and Carplay on the head stock unit.

He told me after about 30 minutes of trying to upgrade firmware that due to the "Hacks" installed it's not possible to use the standard method dealers use to upgrade firmware, and that he needs to communicate with head office for their recommendation, but it might be impossible for them to solve.

He'll get back to me in a few days, but what do you think? Any of you had this experience and was it resolved?

You most likely can uninstall all of these 'hacks' if you know what version of this Madza Tweak that was installed.

I did manage to uninstall all the tweaks. Car is booked into a Mazda service center Monday, where they will install the upgraded USB port box, upgrade the firmware and install Android Auto/Apple car play.

That's in theory. They might still not be able to solve it, because the tweaks might have done some changes they aren't skilled enough to solve and then brick the device. All a bit worrying.

Also not cheap to do it officially. Same price for getting this done is the same price as a good quality Android head unit.

Very odd, I have a 2017 Mazda 3 GS in Canada and I had no issues (other than time to dismantle the car interior) installing the new hub AND the Infotainment update myself. NOTE: Latest NA version is v74.00.311NA which I believe no longer supports the awesomeness that is MZD-AIO tweaks.

After uninstalling the tweaks, the Mazda dealer had no further issues upgrading the system. So now it's on latest version with official AA and Carplay.
