Okay, a few things happened here at the same time. You didn't need to reformat the SD card and reinstall the system. When you shut down the system by flipping the power switch (because you couldn't see what's going on on the screen), you didn't shut it down cleanly, which is why you got the check and repair at boot. That's normal, as you need to always shut down the system cleanly (not just flip the power switch).
If you find yourself in a situation like this again, or when an emulator/game freezes and you can't quit it to cleanly shut down the system, hold Reset and press Select, and then wait just a moment for the system to turn off before you flip the power switch. This will quickly force shut down the system and ensure that nothing gets corrupted on the card in the process.
When there is an unclean shutdown, on next boot the system will check the card for any errors and attempt to repair them. This is the message that you saw. After the card is checked and fixed, and you've cleanly shut down the system, on the next boot you should not see that message anymore.
About setting the backlight:
Yes, it's possible to completely turn the screen backlight off in the settings, but you have a button shortcut to restore the backlight if that happens. If you hold Select and then press or hold the right shoulder button (R), you can increase your backlighting again, and you'll be able to see the screen. This shortcut adjusts the backlight setting directly, so you can avoid using the settings menu altogether for changing the backlight if you want to.
After holding Select and pressing the right shoulder button (R), press the right shoulder button (R) to increase the backlight, and the left shoulder button (L) to decrease it.
You can also adjust the system volume this way by holding Select and pressing the left shoulder button (L) first.
Different screens on different devices (including different Miyoo devices) have a different lower limit for the screen backlight beyond which the screen turns off. Below 20% is usually the threshold beyond which the LCD screen will turn off at some point.
You can also adjust the backlight by editing the GMenuNX config file on the SD card: gmenu2x/gmenu2x.conf
Just edit the number in the line that says "backlight=", and save your changes to the text file. You can use any number from 0 to 100. That's if you need to or want to tweak the setting manually. (It's much easier to use the button shortcut I've explained above to do it.)
1st of all, thanks for your answers about the error message, i didn't see any sign or progress animation or something else that shows me that the "checking" action was not a frozen screen, so after having waited quite a long time with the considered "frozen" screen i powered off lol^^
and thanks for the shortcuts, it is more easy with them
Yep, there's no progress indicator, and the repair may take a while (a few minutes, and, depending on the size of your SD card, it may even take up to 5-10 minutes). It's never a frozen screen, so don't turn it off, let it do what it needs to do to fix/protect your data. When it's finally done, GMenuNX (the main user interface) will load up again, like normal.
But yes, you shouldn't run into that check and repair message if you always shut the device down cleanly. ^_^ That system script only runs as a data security feature to protect your files when there is trouble -- when operation on the SD card was interrupted suddenly (when the SD card wasn't unmounted/ejected safely before the device turned off).
When modyfing backlight in GMenu2X settings the only way to restore default configuration is to delete gmenu2x.conf
file in "/mnt/gmenu2x/..." if you can't do it the normal way.
hello when i set the backlight level lower than 20 the screen becomes black, so i couln't come back to the settings page to increase it again, and when i shut down the v90 then i couldnt reboot it because an error message said that the unit was not correctly stopped...
so i had to reformat the sd card and reinstall the system and my games files, which takes me a long time...
anyway is it possible to not have a black screen at all since it is useless and it can lead to what i experienced?
thanks
