Bitcoin Core

BIP 351

A stealth address protocol for Bitcoin - makes it possible for two parties to transact using addresses that only they can calculate.

Notes This is done using exclusively on-chain methods and in a manner that minimizes blockchain footprint. **Example use case scenario**: anytime an XPUB might otherwise be shared, or where a static address could be a breach of privacy. * **donations**: Bob runs a website that accepts donations. Instead of having a static bitcoin address that everybody can see, he instead puts a Private Payments payment code on his website. Alice and Carol can use this payment code to generate separate stealth addresses that they can privately donate to. * **Payroll** don't want employer to have XPUB and thus know every address you have. * **Honor System Stand** - better than static address or running server with XPUB.

Taro alpha release

Lightning Labs has released the taro daemon alpha. Despite what the name might imply the taro daemon is not a little monster that steals your root vegetables, it is a tool to issue and transfer assets on bitcoin and lightning. Check out this blog post for the English explanation or the repo if you want to get technical.

Onion Messages and Asynchronous Lightning Payments

LDK developer vallywal explains how onion messages not only unlock bolt12 offers and blinded routes, but the combination of onion messages and PTLCs enable async payments over lightning that don’t lock up network liquidity. Really tho, the awesomest part of this blog post is all the 🔥 diagrams.

Mitigating Channel Jamming with Reputation Credentials

Antoine Riard has written a new BOLT proposal to solve channel jamming using a reputation credential scheme. Each node supporting this scheme issues tokens to peers that can be redeemed to create an HTLC forward with that peer. Nodes are free to experiment with different token and issuance designs without network wide coordination.

CLN v22.11 release

Blockstream has announced a new CLN release titled "Alameda Yield Generator" that includes a new plugin manager tool, improvements to autoclean, and a new filter API. This release marks the first to use a new date-based semantic versioning scheme.

What are the differences between LND and CLN?

Voltage released a nice blog post summarizing the main differences between the two primary LN node implementations: CLN and LND. I look forward to sharing this blog post widely since this is a very common question.

Bitcoin Explained

The Tornado Cash Trial A good introduction to the tornado cash matter and the arrest of Alexy Pertsev. Aaron and Sjors provide a high-level description of what was going on, it’s relevance to bitcoin, and even mention Wasabi Wallet at one point. A key point is that it is still unclear exactly which angle the prosecution is going to argue. They postponed the trial for another three months, at which time the prosecutor will have to provide a more detailed description of the charges.
