Things worked out well as far as assembling the vessel, but the game crashes if I close the interface and interact with the ship's helm again and tells me that there's a problem with davincisvessels, moving world, and reskillable. The world is not corrupted however, and when I load it again the ship remains disassembled. If I mounted the ship directly after assembling it, and disassemble it before dismounting, i.e. not interacting with the ship's helm when the ship's assembled and I'm not mounted, the game will not crash. I tried disabling reskillable and that seemed to solve the problem (for now).
