Repository not available anymore #121

Open Trilarion opened 5 years ago

Trilarion commented 5 years ago

It may happen that given repositories in entries get removed from their location. Typically they move somewhere else. This issue is a open ended issue collecting information about these cases and possibly also fixing them (if an easy fix is available) or creating other issues about them.

Trilarion commented 5 years ago

While using the update script, the following repositories were not found anymore:

Trilarion commented 5 years ago

Turn of War is also at https://github.com/trananh1992/Turn-of-War (old version) and I have a local copy. I could not find anything else related to the project on Github/Gitlab or googling it. Nor is there a way to contact other Github users. I could look in the Git logs to see if there is a reasonable committer email address and try to ask him, why the repository was removed, but that may feel a bit like stalking. Instead I could also upload the local copy I have to Github and change the entry accordingly.

Trilarion commented 5 years ago

https://github.com/LynxAbraxas/ctp2.git seems to have changed and the new master seems to be at https://github.com/civctp2/civctp2.git. Will update the entry.

Trilarion commented 5 years ago

https://github.com/guillaume-gouchon/dungeonhero.git is gone, but guillaume-gouchon still has other repositories and a link to a website. Unfortunately "Dungeon Hero" is not a very unique name and there may or may not be copies of the repository on Github/Gitlab. I will continue searching. I also have a local copy. I will try to contact the author. I could upload the local copy to Github.

Trilarion commented 5 years ago

https://github.com/farmboy0/slashem.git is gone, but farmboy0 still has other repositories. Unfortunately "Slash em" is a very popular name and there may or may not be copies of the repository on Github/Gitlab. I will continue searching. I also have a local copy. I will try to contact the author. I could upload the local copy to Github.

I found a commiter email of "Turn of War" and sent an email to Edward Woodhouse inquiring about the lost sources. ("I recently discovered that the repository at https://github.com/EdwardWoodhouse/Turn-of-War doesn't exist anymore. I wonder what the reason is? The content was, if I remember correctly, under an open source license. Is there a chance to make it available again?")

Trilarion commented 5 years ago

Slash'EM seems to be an old copy of the CVS on the Sourceforge project site. Maybe check that CVS again, make a conversion to Git and put it up on Github/lab.

Trilarion commented 5 years ago

I found an email address of Guillaume Gouchon on the website of the Dungeon Hero Android app site and sent him a message asking about the lost sources. ("I recently discovered that the repository at https://github.com/guillaume-gouchon/dungeonhero.git doesn't exist anymore. I wonder what the reason is? The content was, if I remember correctly, under an open source license. Is there a chance to make it available again?")

The Hg repository on the http://www.asc-hq.org/ website is down, as well as the chat and forum. On the website itself there is no contact information, nor in the sources. I wrote Martin Bickel who developed the game many years ago on Sourceforge via the Sourceforge contact system ("I discovered that the source repo at http://hg.asc-hq.org/hg/asc of ASC is not available anymore and there is no contact information (email, ...) at the website at http://www.asc-hq.org/. Do you maybe know who is maintaining the project now and could forward me some contact details?"). If I do not get an answer I will simply upload the locally stored Hg (which I already converted to Git using fast-export).

Trilarion commented 5 years ago

I got a reply from Martin Bickel. He converted the Hg repository from his own server to a Git on Github (https://github.com/ValHaris/asc-hq.git), which will certainly increase popularity of the project. He says there was not much interest lately.

Trilarion commented 5 years ago

I got no reply from Edward Woodhouse for over two weeks, but found that the version at https://github.com/trananh1992/Turn-of-War is actually up-to-date. I used it instead.

Trilarion commented 5 years ago

I didn't get a reply from Guillaume Gouchon, so I uploaded a copy of the Git that I still had and informed the author about it. Use the copy now on in the game entry.

Trilarion commented 5 years ago

I got a reply from Guillaume Gouchon. He missed the first message, but restored the repository. Dungeon Hero is available again.

Trilarion commented 5 years ago

The https://github.com/farmboy0/slashem.git repository was just an import of the cvs repository. I will upload it to https://github.com/osgamearchive/..

Trilarion commented 5 years ago

I uploaded the cvs conversion of slashem to https://github.com/osgamearchive/slashem.git

We have some more:

Trilarion commented 4 years ago

The repo allacrost had an unnecessary suffix and the ecwolf repository changed from hg to git. Both is fixed.

Trilarion commented 4 years ago

I found a replacement for Argentum-Online (https://github.com/ao-libre) but still have to check that the full history is contained with them.

Trilarion commented 4 years ago

It seems that https://github.com/Argentum-Online/Argentum-Online.git/ was some kind of short lived Java port of Argentum Online, which in general is written in Basic. Therefore the loss of not having this repo anymore is rather limited. I regard the issue as solved.

Trilarion commented 4 years ago

For Turious I contacted the Archive Team (see also #153).

Trilarion commented 4 years ago

The Archive Team rebooted the Gitorious server and I could download Turious. Will convert to Gitlab.

Trilarion commented 4 years ago

New cases of repositories that cannot be cloned automatically

Trilarion commented 4 years ago

The "could not read username" cases are repositories that still exist but went private mode on Github. They also appear in #125. For those I will need to find alternative repositories or upload my stored one if needed. For KKnD, there is additionally #252.

git remote prune origin (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6656619/git-and-nasty-error-cannot-lock-existing-info-refs-fatal) solved the problem with https://github.com/agateau/pixelwheels.git, but unfortunately not the one with https://github.com/NYRDS/remixed-dungeon.git

Trilarion commented 4 years ago

For https://github.com/NYRDS/remixed-dungeon.git I deleted my local copy and did "git clone --mirror" again and the error message is gone.

Trilarion commented 3 years ago

For https://github.com/IceReaper/KKnD.git see #252. It's fixed.

Trilarion commented 3 years ago

The entry about ragel has been removed making it obsolete here.

Trilarion commented 3 years ago

The entry about vorbis has been removed making it obsolete here.

Trilarion commented 3 years ago

opensim is replaced by a github mirror (better than nothing, git clone git://opensimulator.org/git/opensim still didn't work for me)

Trilarion commented 3 years ago

vortice is available again
