Bitbucket ceases support for Mercurial in 2020 #182

Open Trilarion opened 4 years ago

See: https://hub.packtpub.com/bitbucket-to-no-longer-support-mercurial-users-must-migrate-to-git-by-may-2020/

We may want to speed up conversion of Hg to Git in these cases. Advice the maintainers if possible. Also search for further games with Hg on bitbucket.

Although I guess that bitbucket will kind of support existing repository at least read-only.

And the support of Mercurial repositories by Bitbucket has ended. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do conversion in the mean time. First, I will get an overview of the affected repositories and then check them.

We have

Trilarion commented 3 years ago

Some may have moved, especially Löve, OGRE, pygame, but I hope that the other ones are archived. So far I could not get any information about archived content. The links of the first 4 repositories just aren't existing anymore. :(

Atlassian, the parent company of Bitbucket, itself has not archived the Mercurial repositories on Bitbucket, which is a shame IMHO in 2020. The only force that may come to the rescue is the Archive team. They estimate that there are 245k repositories affected with a total size of ~5TB (https://www.archiveteam.org/index.php?title=Bitbucket). Hopefully they were able to save some or all of them.

Fujo, Goblin Camp and Summoning Wars was converted to Git before by me because they were inactive. I also did not find any other copy of these games on Github, so I just use my conversion for these.

I could maybe notify people (if there are still communities of these games) of my Git repository. For example at sumwars.org/forum

Globulation 2 does not seem to have been transferred to Github or Gitlab. Maybe I should contact the developers (Leo Wandersleb or others) or maybe contact the Debian developers (https://packages.debian.org/buster/glob2). I could also upload my last archived download, if I can find it or wait for the ArchiveTeam to make their archive available.

The latest version I have is rev. 4246 from 2019-07-28.

Hero of Allacrost does also not seem to be transferred to Github or Gitlab and does not seem to be part of Debian packages. I could upload my last archived version or try to contact the developers or wait for ArchiveTeam.

The latest version I have is rev. 2471 from 2018-10-03.

Same for Postal-1. I found (https://github.com/Oniryck/POSTAL-1-Open-Source) but it may be not to most recent version of the Hg repository that was on bitbucket. I could try the same things as for the other games.

The latest Hg version I have is rev. 372 from 2017-11-27 (Rick F) while the repository at https://github.com/Oniryck/POSTAL-1-Open-Source has only 1 commit from 2016, so it cannot be uptodate.

Same for quad engine. I found (https://github.com/dmitrykolesnikovich/quadEngine) and (https://github.com/EliiahPro/quad-engine) and one could additionally try to contact Илья Проходцев.

The lastest version I have is rev. 483 from 2018-10-22.

SCOURGE is not so much affected. (https://bitbucket.org/uzudil/scourge2/) was not the main repo. I could have a look at my archived copy and see if it's worth uploading somewhere.

I never archived it, because it was not part of the repository section. So I just removed it.

Trilarion commented 3 years ago

Story of a Lost Sky is similar to Hero of Allacrost. I will have to try to contact the developer Rune Devros or upload one of my own archived versions.

The last version I have is rev. 1536 from 2016-07-11.

Trilarion commented 3 years ago

Same for Supremacy. Nothing on Github or Gitlab.

The last version I have is rev 249 from 2014-04-10.

Trilarion commented 3 years ago

And the same for Bubs Brothers. Could contact Armin Rigo, the original developer. There is also a CVS repository on SourceForge, question is if the Hg repo on bitbucket had additions?

Last version I have is rev. 40 from 2016-12-14.

Wizards Magic is not critical. Only question is if https://bitbucket.org/chubakur/wizards-magic-old had anything https://github.com/chubakur/wizards-magic.git hasn't. Probably not, because the owner is the same.

I did not archive https://bitbucket.org/chubakur/wizards-magic-old, it's not properly stored in the Internet Archive so I just removed that link.
