Ok question. Sorry i a am not answering your question, but I guess if you want to do such thing, and are capable do that, there is no problem, just join the project you are most interested. I dont know any game that would not benefit good/better AI.
Thanks for the feedback. I think that with enough time anyone is capable of doing lots of things. For me it's mostly finding enough free time and surveying the active field to see where help is needed most. I already joined some projects (see https://trilarion.blogspot.com/search/label/osgames). I don't really have strong preferences for a specific type of game, I just want to get things done and learn along the way.
Some strategy or other genre games will have AIs and quite complex rules. Usually they are quite dumb, but a real challenging AI can improve a game quite a lot.
I could imagine that if the game core can be used to play the game automatically against each other, a machine learning algorithm could be used to improve the AI capabilities. Maybe this framework could be even used to learn later from the player too. Special "character" properties like being ruthless, aggressive, peaceful, honorable, treacherous that could be used to tune the computer player would be great too.
Question are, which games would allow that and how to do that?
