Circle Battery Icons #37

Alright, so I have a preview set of circle battery icons made. At the moment, there are two sets of five (empty–full not charging and empty–full charging). However, the set would look the best if given roughly four more icons each. That would lead there to be two sets of icons (one charging, one not) for the given values of battery percent: 0, 12.5, 25, 37.5, 50, 62.5, 75, 87.5 and 100.

That would mean there would be ~18 icons devoted to battery-life alone (although, users could, of course, use them for whatever they would like). Which is kind of huge. Attached is a screenshot of the iconset as it stands now (just 0,25,50,75,100 of charging and not charging). I didn't want to push these, given the huge change, without your opinion Trilby.

Thoughts? circle-icons The dot in the center represents the charge state (filled=charging; empty=discharging)

I'd also be happy to hear any suggestions regarding the style of the icons themselves.

That seems like a lot of icons, do you use them all? I only need a few battery icons - they can have colors too. My battery indicator can - with only 4 icons - have a dozen steps between empty and full, or even more if I used even more colors.

It's a very large number of icons, and colors can, of course, still be used. But yes, I would use all of them. I recognize that color can be used to signal intermediate steps; I only use them, however, as accents to keep my bar looking clean.

At first, I had mixed feelings about this set, but now, having used them for a while, I really prefer them, and I'll be using the full set as soon as I get the rest of them setup (and once I get a small C statusbar program so I don't need to have such a stupid-huge conky script running this).

Having said that, I'm not going to modify 5 icons and add 11 more just for an aesthetic shift unless you support it. So, it's totally your call. Either way, my iconset will be open for anyone to use (as always). So, if others are interested in using them, it won't be difficult.

Attached is the first draft of the whole set of 16 icons that I'd propose (charging on top; discharging on bottom): circle-icons

Again, whether or not (any of) these get added is your call.

Although I am not (maybe yet) using alopex in terms of sending the message: Colors are more clear than a tiny icon change. I'd go with TrilbyWhite 4icons in the colors of red, green, orange and yellow should be more than clear to transport the battery status... Maybe even something like blinking would be better at under 10%. ;)

I don't know why I've left this open for so long. My icons.h will include these (at least for a little while), and should anyone want to use them, it can be found here: https://github.com/HalosGhost/.dotfiles/blob/master/alopex/icons.h

All the best,
