no, but turning in the quest which actually rewards it does, other achievements for weilding legendary items behave in the same way ie same with Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings and other lendendary weapons except for those which are rare drops from bosses which can be distributed (ie tbc legendarys). If the item is awarded in proper way ie via quest reward you get the ach then but if item is added you dont.

Working as intended. Achievement criteria type is complete quest, not own/equip item

@dr-j I have done all quest of that series (quest are written below), but I have no luck to have that achievement. 1.The Sacred and the Corrupt 2.Shadow's Edge 3.A Feast of Souls 4.Unholy Infusion 5.Blood Infusion 6.Frost Infusion 7.The Splintered Throne 8.Shadowmourne... 9.The Lich King's Last Stand Please let me know exactly which quest are u referring.

@Shauren I am not finding any information that is related to Achievement ID: 4623 in achievement_criteria_data table of TDB_full_335.56_2014_09_21.7z , can you please tell me where shall i search to get this?

http://www.wowwiki.com/Shadowmourne_(achievement) is written that Shadowmourne (achivement) is the Feat of Strength achievement for equipping [Shadowmourne] from Icecrown Citadel. and http://www.wowhead.com/achievement=4623 information is also saying "Wielder of Shadowmourne.". I have not found any link about "quest reward" for this achievement. So I guess this achievement should be given after wielding of [Shadowmourne] . What do you think?

This is in DBC files extracted from the client (Achievement_Criteria.dbc) - there is no better source of info than blizzard themselves
