OS-8397 Make smartos-live work post-illumos#14769 #1050

Will update ticket with analysis and testing. This enables future upstream merges of illumos-joyent, and this commit along with the merge of illumos#14769 will constitute a Flag Day AND require a new strap-cache to be built (thanks to the adjunct being updated).

Test notes now in ticket. The final testing (build from scratch on a CN that has these fixes in place) is happening now. Will update here when done.

Final testing is now done -- built itself on a PI that has this + upstream-illumos-merge done.

Needs re-approval now as well -- Jenkins build is failing, and I might not yet be done. :(
