Hi @sparvu, the issue you are having is with Virtual Machine Manager rather than SmartOS. I had this issue a year ago, but I managed to reproduce and fix it now with smartos-latest.iso on Fedora on Virtaul Machine Manager 1.4.1.
In Virtual Machine Manager go to the settings of your smartos VM and change Display from Spice server to VNC server and reboot. The issue should be resolved and you can continue with normal installation. Hope this helps.
