Background power usage on Android #2152

I installed the Quiet app yesterday and made a test group. I haven't done anything with it since then. Today I noticed my battery was lower than expected and in Battery Usage found that Quiet had consumed 24% of my battery since the last charge about 8 hours ago. It shows that Quiet has been running in the background for 8 hr, and had no screen time.

My phone is a pixel 6a running stock Android version 14. It has the most recent (Nov 1) security update.

LMK if there's more data that would be helpful to provide. I've already uninstalled it to save my battery but would be happy to try it again!

This is a known issue and thanks for the feedback! We're working on an approach for iOS that won't require running in the background and Android users will be able to use this too, soon. There's other steps we can take too.

Do you use any other Tor based apps? I'd be curious to see how running Quiet compares to running Orbot or Briar.

Cool; yeah I know it's tricky.

I use Orbot. I haven't noticed unexpected battery usage from it in general. It was running and connected to the Tor network during the same time but I think not doing much beyond heartbeats etc, and did not show up in the top few battery users.
