How I would implement item modifiers (giving upgrade kits another use and more) #4180

This is my own version of item modifiers, as a response to that forum post of RPG-style stat modifiers.

Modifiers should be accessory-like items that can be applied onto weapons/armor to slightly modify specific stats. If we want further customization beyond enchantments, I believe this would be a far better approach that still has far more tolerable elements of luck and being for completionists.

Base mechanics Whether through the use of a new table block or whatever, modifiers can be applied to armor (and also weapons if you want). An armor piece/weapon can only have 1 modifier equipped at a time. Modifiers can also be removed from items.

I admit, this would be redundant with enchantments. One of the big differences is how they're obtained. Modifiers would be rare items spread across the mod, separate from enchantments all being in enchantment table/Imbuing chamber, which I think would be cool and benefit the mod.

Another gameplay difference is that modifiers should have both upsides and downsides. I know downsides are taboo for MC players, but when we already have items with special effects, enchantments, AND skill abilities, I think players should have to deal with downsides if they choose to add yet another layer of power. Generally, both the upsides and downsides would make pretty small changes since you can be affected by up to 5 modifiers.

What items would be modifiers? Mainly upgrade kits. Because I still want them to retain the usage of turning specific weapons into T4 versions, it may be a very long time before a reworked Shyre or other endgame dim is added, so upgrade kits should get another use that doesn't require Divine station.

It can also be other rare items obtained from places like bosses.

Examples of modifiers Nether upgrade kit: +5% fire DoT damage Damage taken when touching water

Precasian upgrade kit: +5% melee damage -2 armor

Golden upgrade kit: +1 luck attribute -10% damage

Please don't add anything that makes you take damage from water. I had a bad experience with a mod that added an armor set like that.

I saw a similar suggestion in my community, they suggested add some smithing templates, found in loot chests. Not only for armor trims, some templates can provide some functional uses. Such as adding some durability or armor value temporarily (just an example)
