In the vmt files for riot infected (both l4d2 and l4d1 variants), there is a discrepancy between the "detail" of the models of living and wounded/burning infected.
The riot infected have a detail effect for "dirt", but the wounded and burning models have the effect changed to "crud". This causes the corpses of wounded riot infected to change their appearance from living ones.
Reproduction steps
Use a weapon that will leave a wound (melee, shotgun, sniper, etc), and shoot a riot infected in the back.
