Hi! At the risk of being a complete shill, a friend of mine has an image dithering library & CLI app that may serve as a time saving step for implementing improved dithering options and more technically accurate dithering math within Pixel Composer. The library is written in Go which may introduce some challenges seeing as (According to the GitHub codebase information) this application is not using Go at all, however it is compatibly licensed (MPL).

Worth a look at least for inspiration! :)
