It seems to me the 1.6 version never had a German translation. I made one
today, for both the formal ("Sie") and informal ("Du") address. In some
cases I also tried to not only translate literally but make it sound good
and make more sense.
Maybe you should provide the formal one as standard (like de_DE.mo), as in
Germany you talk to strangers in the formal way, and the informal one as
addition (like de_DE_informal.mo), so users can change the address by
changing the filename.
Proof-read only by myself, but I think it's nearly typo-free.
