A few small cleanups #26

Remove auto-quoting of strings.
Add parenthesis to functions and methods.

The reasons are expressed within each commit message.

A few additional notes:

You don't have to merge it now.
You don't have to merge it at all.
I can change the quotes I used to double quotes instead of single quotes. Your call.
This isn't the full set of changes to make it work with the current parser, but I'm looking to fix things in the parser and perhaps this will be enough.
