Improve usability/clarity of search function #137

Follow up to #127

The most critical tradeoff to going with a search option that is so broad is that it will likely cause confusion for users who will not have direct visual feedback as to why the cards met the search criteria, since the cards display less information than what the search takes into account.

We should aim to quickly improve usability on this front once the search feature is merged in.

from @jdalt :

One thing that’s been sticking with me on search is that ideally we’d be able search through most of the text but most of the text isn’t visible in the sidebar cards - just name, neighborhood, urgent needs, and donations. The search could also filter down the pins but that would still require a user to click and scroll through the pins to find the information that matched their search criteria. To me that’s one of the primary obstacles to going forward with search. Perhaps there’s a simple solution though (make the cards expandable?).

https://github.com/Twin-Cities-Mutual-Aid/twin-cities-aid-distribution-locations/pull/156 has cleared. This is no longer blocked.

Hi @mc-funk , do you mean this beyond my PR #138? I would love to iterate on this idea if you have other ideas of how it could be improved or changed to help with this

This is probably going to be fairly technically challenging to complete from a dev perspective.

Usability Questions:

Possibility: "diapers found in Needs" or similar

This is a pretty open-ended usability problem that could use some thought and recommendations.
