Here's the illustration I want.

Let me know...

Thanks, David. Chris and Claire are discussing this and will have something for you to review next week.

dberlow commented 5 years ago

Hey Michelle,

I’m not sure what there is to discuss on this. I’ve changed from an illustration that couldn’t show this In a platform independent way, to an editorial piece complete to specimens And captions.

I’m also concerned with not using any more resources that I have to, to do this. There is a lot to do and only periodic help. So I’d prefer this one goes pretty straight and quick to code.

There’s another page in the pipeline for later today, (After variables in the same topic), that is going to need some design and code work but I’d be happy to see a solution to that, and this, next week.

Thanks.

They were debating SVG vs. live text. It sounds like you'd prefer live text?

dberlow commented 5 years ago

Type Live yes.

I'm working on this layout. One issue with doing it with live type, though, is that it will require loading 29 font files! Unless there is a variable version of Titling Gothic and/or Eldorado we could use.

ghost commented 5 years ago

This is half done. Eldorado is actually Eldorado, and Momentum is actually Momentum (though using the VF). Waiting on Titling Gothic for whether we actually want to use 15 webfonts for this. And Old Dreadful is currently using Andale Mono or Monaco which only exist in one weight on the Mac. Do we want to use system fonts for this (which requires a little Windows research) or we could use a constructed webfont example, just let me know which one you would want to use.

dberlow commented 5 years ago

Lol, I got Papyrus instead of Andale/monoco.

That first example has to be Courier, which I've detailed the spec for, please do that. We don't need to download that to anyone right?

Yes, please do svg on the eldorado and titling gothic until we do vfs of those...

New head too.

Thanks.

I don’t think there’s a way to use local Courier and also get faux bold, since courier has a real bold. But maybe it could be done with a “local” @font-face with no bold specified. I’ll try it.

I’m showing you how to do it on any platform Chris with a double setting of reg. slightly offset in x... for b and bi exactly what it used to do...

But be aware there are consequences if papyrus is left on a site associated with FB for more than 49 hrs or so. ;)

Done! I went ahead and used webfonts for Titling Gothic. With subsetting each style is only 4KB.

dberlow commented 5 years ago

Wow! That’s great. If you could horizontally align the four specimens of courier, To the four specimens of El Dorado below them, will be done! Thanks! On Feb 18, 2019, at 3:43 PM, Chris Lewis notifications@github.com wrote:
