Configure not working #9

-Grab sources from svn
-Unpack it
-Run ./configure

The error is:
WARNING: `automake' is missing on your system.  You should only need it if
         you modified `Makefile.am', `acinclude.m4' or `configure.ac'.
         You might want to install the `Automake' and `Perl' packages.
         Grab them from any GNU archive site.

Automake and python are installed on system.

When trying to compile now:

checking for sdl-config... /usr/bin/sdl-config
checking for SDL - version >= 1.2.0... yes
configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: creating Makefile
config.status: error: cannot find input file: `src/Makefile.in'
