Knowing your audience:

  1. You guys did a great job by having an excellent introduction to someone who doesn't necessarily understand the entire alcohol business.
  2. The note that provides a good caution to the user of the dashboard is quite important as someone could be left wondering how some countries which you wouldn't expect have a darker shade.

Choosing defaults wisely.

  1. I liked the fact that the default shows the world consumption.
  2. Something similar could have been done for the alcohol one as well, but I do understand that it's a proportion (and hence might need to show one instead of all).

Less is more:

  1. Focussing on 3 types of alcohol instead of a huge array of them, made it look purpose driven and very easy for the user to navigate.
  2. Deciding to show 2 plots was a bold move to stay relevant on topic (while you could've been tempted to put in more like some of the other groups). I didn't need to scroll at all!

Aesthetics matter

  1. The choice of colors have been good - red for wine, yellow for beer, etc.
  2. You could consider removing the line which says "Adjust the cells below" since they do seem like dropdown menus and the user wouldn't need to be instructed to play around.
  3. Additionally, you could have considered putting in a jumbo header to demarcate the description of the app and the plots (something with a different background color or so).
  4. The tooltips provide good information and makes your visualization quite effective.

Additional comments: These are minor comments and don't undermine the amount of effort it had taken you guys to put this together. Recommendations to take this from a good dashboard to a great dashboard:

  1. You could have considered putting in a link to your github repo so that people can contact you if they need more information about the analysis.
  2. The data source could be moved to the bottom to be less of a distraction.
  3. The whole plot being one single object didn't need a horizontal scroll bar (but I know what a pain it could be to remove just that! I am sure you're aware and might've worked on it too).
  4. Should the tool tips on the right and left need to show the same information? How about showing the rank on chloropeth but additional information on the column chart?

I wish you folks had presented this last week - it seems like a really interesting data set and was worth sharing this viz with the rest of the cohort! I am looking forward to check out more projects from you all!
