I would have liked to see a histogram of your continuous variables before you start exploring relationships. You need to do this to see what is the distribution of your variables.
I would have also liked to see a graph between your X and your Y without your confounding variable. It is hard to say that there is a general trend if you facet by mode of transportation.
When you write "The maximum number of students use transit.", this sentence is not entirely correct and may be misleading. It might be better to say that either "the majority of the students use transit" or "transit is the most common form of transportation"
