  • Interpret scatter plots, line plots, bar plots, and histograms.
  • Familiarity with the R programming language, and specifically with the dplyR and ggplot2 packages.
  • You should be familiar with:
    • the pipe %>% and the mutate, filter, group_by, summarise, top_n, arrange, and different join functions.
    • what aesthetics, geometries, and scales are in ggplot2, and how to add new layers to a ggplot object
• LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  • Given a dataset and a question, select an appropriate plot type (scatter plot, line plot, bar plot or histogram) and use R to create a visualization that best answers the question
  • Given a visualization and a question, evaluate the effectiveness of the visualization and suggest improvements to better answer the question
  • Interpret the visualization in the context of the research question
  • Referring to the visualization, communicate the conclusions in nontechnical terms
  • Use the ggplot2 library in R to create and refine the above visualizations

Submitting was very, very easy! Especially since this resource is already on StatSpace - the template is very similar. The only comment I have is that you can add levels to bullet point lists, but the current submission template does not make this clear. This could be important for when people want to add multiple learning objectives and prereqs, as I did above. I think it'd be super easy to just put this as an example in the template, though, like so:

  • learning objective 1: leave four spaces to indent within a list
    • learning objective 1.1: another four spaces
    • learning objective 1.2
  • learning objective 2

Thanks, Gian Carlo. We were thinking that the deployment site could be statspace - there is a bit more info there than in the info file, and it does have the shiny app link, so nothing is lost. And it is a good advertisement for statspace. Are you OK with that? Good idea about the bullets example. Thanks!
