Communications guidelines #82

Closed wvictor14 closed 3 years ago

wvictor14 commented 3 years ago

I added a communications guidelines / how to use slack page.

Added link to this page on the let's talk section of the homepage. I also removed the private message link, since it is now redundant with the old page. But the "widgets" are not centered for some reason.

Added links to the #Communications sections in the syllabuses.

Let me know if anybody wants any changes on the proposed structure or content. Or feel free to edit directly!

This is great content, thank you! My only comment at this time is about the public link for joining Slack. For longevity, I'm starting to think the channel should be open to everyone, but then make a private channel for each iteration. I'll bring up the topic next Monday in our meeting.

I have an idea: I've been wanting to promote R groups like RLadies. To do this, I think it would be nice to have a third icon, labelled "community", with a subcaption reading something like "Connect with groups outside of STAT 545". The logo could be something like Font Awesome's users (using it should only involve plugging in icon_pack: "fas" and icon: "users" in the widget md file).

Instead of the section being labelled "Let's Talk", perhaps it can be called "Connect".

On the "Community" page, some groups could be listed off and linked. Here's content I can think of -- and would be enough to start with, I think. Please adjust as you see fit!
