Background image: cannot read text on darker colors + need option for flush bottom margin

When I use a background image + a darker overlay, I don't have the option to make text white, so text is hard to read on those brand colors.

I also need to be able to make the background image margin be flush against the bottom of the webpage so there is no gap between it and the footer.
