I agree. Unfortunately, I'm not personally authorized to license this software as it belongs to the University rather than to me personally. Let me talk to my superior and I'll get back to you.
Thanks, Chris. FYI, I sent an email to you at the address in your Github account related to all of this.
On-hold for moment as I need to contact Doug about this. He is out of the country and is not immediately available.
WordPress feels "strongly that plugins and themes are derivative work and thus inherit the GPL license." See http://wordpress.org/about/license/. However, we (UCF) take no official position on this statement neither agreeing nor disagreeing. I have been told that we will not be adding a specific license this particular code (we are free to use BSD for other code in the future though). You are, of course, free to interpret WordPress' statements as you see fit.
Developer team,
As I was thinking about incorporating this code directly into my theme (and noting a couple of others have done this in issue #20 ), I realized that there was no LICENSE file or anywhere else indicating that distribution license the code falls under.
I think a file needs to be added. For my part I'd encourage use of a permissive license like the BSD, Apache or MIT license, primarily because that makes it easiest for people to use the code.
