Need to Add Metadata to QC1 Landing Pages #13

We need to add some metadata to the HydroShare landing pages for the QC1 resources.

For the last point - The observed variables would be relatively easy to add to the metadata. Would you want both the names and the codes, or would just the names suffice? For the Variable Description, we could have "Various environmental variables - See file headers for detailed descriptions." After that, we can just hard code the Data Processing and Data Collection method.

AmberSJones commented 7 years ago

@fryarludwig , if you can do the name and codes of the Observed Variables in a similar format to what we've done for the raw data files that would be great. That Variable Description sounds great.

Data Processing Method would be something like: "These data have been post processed from raw data by technicians using ODM Tools software. Scripts that include the editing steps are included with the data. Post processing for some variables was conducted outside of ODM Tools. See the file headers for detailed method descriptions."

Data Collection Method would be something like: "Measurements were made by environmental sensors at 15 minute intervals. Measurements were recorded by a Campbell Scientific datalogger."

For authorship, it currently shows two authors - one being the account used to create the resource (iUtah Data Manager) and the other being the iUtah GAMUT Working Group. I don't know of any ways to automatically remove an author, but it can be removed manually. Is it worth the effort to remove the iUtah Data Manager author, or should we take some other action?

I've added Credits and Spatial Coverage. The script is currently running and all QC1 resources will be updated by the end of the night. To complete this I had to recreate each QC1 resource, so any hardcoded links to any QC1 resources will need to be updated. I can provide you a dictionary mapping each site to its resource after the process is complete.

AmberSJones commented 7 years ago

I don't think I have any hard codes to the QC1 resources, so that's not a problem for me.

@horsburgh , can you look at my above question re. authorship of these resources?

horsburgh commented 7 years ago

@AmberSJones - based on our conversation today, I'm leaning toward having the authors and contributors for the QC1 datasets be the same as the QC0 datasets. But, you were going to check with the technicians and get back to us.

AmberSJones commented 7 years ago

The technicians and I just discussed and reached the same conclusion.

@fryarludwig - please update authors and contributors to match what is on the QC0/Raw resources. Also, I'm wondering if these could be sorted alphabetically by last name? Let me know if you have any questions.

fryarludwig commented 7 years ago

I don't know of any way to automatically remove "iUtah Data Manager" from the Authors list, since it is added when I create resources. At this point I've manually added (and sorted) the contributors on resource creation, and have started the process to recreate all the QC1 resources. I'll update when it's completed.

AmberSJones commented 7 years ago

We can keep "iUTAH Data Manager" for now. We might remove manually later.

AmberSJones commented 7 years ago

Were we going to update the extended metadata as described above?

horsburgh commented 7 years ago

@AmberSJones - is that a question for me or @fryarludwig?

fryarludwig commented 7 years ago

Extended metadata, to the best of my knowledge, can not be added or edited using the HydroShare API. There was discussion about adding this ability to the API, however I don't see any changes to this in any recent HydroShare updates.

Right, ok. Thanks for the reminder.
