DAMS purpose is to provide access to digitized and born-digital UCSC Special Collections content. This repository is used for project planning. It holds the task tickets and roadmap for the different projects under DAMS.
This epic focuses on improving our search functionality (faceting, sorting, search options, etc.) and user experience around search and discovery. As part of this work, we will want to begin looking more closely at and make informed decisions about how we indexing our structured metadata in Solr. We will do this with the understanding that decisions made about how and what metadata is indexed will impact user experience.
Background
This epic is in some sense a continuation of the User Interface Redesign UCSCLibrary/dams_project_mgmt#311 epic. Cards pertaining to search/discovery functionality that had been originally included in that epic have been peeled out and re-scoped as a new, separate epic.
Acceptance Criteria
This is what done looks like:
Facets:
[x] UCSCLibrary/dams_project_mgmt#200 Mock Up for Facets (desktop and mobile)
[ ] UCSCLibrary/ucsc-library-digital-collections#376 Sorting and Faceting of Collections
A - Z Page:
[x] UCSCLibrary/dams_project_mgmt#247 Mock Up for new A-Z list of collections
[ ] UCSCLibrary/dams_project_mgmt#277 Create new A-Z list of collections page (desktop)

Related Work
This work can be done in parallel with work on the Configuration File Overhaul UCSCLibrary/dams_project_mgmt#77 and User Experience: Enhanced Support for Complex Objects UCSCLibrary/dams_project_mgmt#466.
This work is preceded by User Interface Redesign UCSCLibrary/dams_project_mgmt#311.
As we begin to discuss Solr/indexing, we will likely need to create cards or an epic specific to that work.
