Post questions here for this week's exemplary readings: 2. Aral, Sinan and Marshall Van Alstyne. 2011. “The Diversity-Bandwidth Trade-off.” American Journal of Sociology 117(1): 90-171.

A brilliant paper! My question is similar to that for the orienting paper - is email data representative and informative enough to study network structure and information flow? Could we possibly add more control variables (e.g., geographical distance) to account for other forms of communication? (btw the authors really have produced a number of seminal papers in social network analysis literature, e.g., The spread of true and false news online. An enjoyable read!

Great paper indeed! I wondered how this could be impacted by 1) social media - particularly networks like LinkedIn that may affect how these companies relate to each other; 2) informal interpersonal communication that is not always mediated.
