Add mining districts #8

Can we please add the metal district outlines to this? They should be titled "Metalliferous Mining Districts" in the legend and be colored by "TYPE" field (see gdb here: M:\Shared drives\UGS_Energy Mineral\Webmap_MinResc)

Sounds good! I'm not sure Jay or Martha have access to that folder location (and I'm the one that doles out access - ha!). Also, with any new layers, please create some new explanatory text and get it peer/technical reviewed.

Thanks!

StephMills commented 4 years ago

Do you have a template or form you want us using for developing the explanatory text? what length should the text be? Do you want me to move the folder elsewhere?

I also like this idea (adding mining district boundaries). In fact, we could add boundaries for several "purpose" types (e.g., mining districts, tar sand areas, oil shale areas, etc.) (oil and gas fields are already on the site). But, if all these polygons are added, then there should be a way to turn them on and off.

StephMills commented 4 years ago

Agreed, otherwise it will get too cluttered.

marshallrobinson commented 4 years ago

@StephMills Other UGS web applications (i.e. Hazards Portal, Industrial Minerals) have small excerpts about the layers that are in the map. Those would be a good template IMO.

Hm, won't let me add a label. This is grant funded, UGP2

Looks like this went quiet on accident.

Looks like the Rock Core app didn't get the Mining Districts layer yet. This layer is on the "Mining Districts and Industrial Mineral Resources" app, so I'd like to confirm that this is indeed wanted on the Rock Core application too.

I think Stephanie wanted that layer added, so folks could see which districts have preserved core.

This is coupled with the request to have a different symbol for the different core types (oil/gas, metals, tar sands, etc.)
