I think it would be cool if we could link the Database Contents panel more directly to the legend and also create a link to the databaes Contents in the About panel. #66
Why do you feel this application needs what you're requesting?
We don't feel like most people who use the app ever read the Database Contents information, even though this info could help them understand the data much better. We would like to see an easy link to the Database Contents somewhere in the Legend and also create a link in the About panel. This is particularly important since we have links where people can download data from the Database Contents but they will never know this if they aren't directed to that information.
Describe the solution you'd like and why it builds value
Two changes.
First, in the About panel, if possible, update the last sentene in the first paragraph so that the phrase "Database Contents" is a link that will open up the Database Contents panel for folks if they click on it. "See Database Contents (add link here) for more information about the data in this map."
Second, if possible and not too difficult to do, add text to the legend that says something like this "More information about data layers" Clicking on that text should open up the Database Contents panel. Ideally this text would be locked to the top or the bottom of the legend so that it showed up regardless of how you scrolled around. Pete and I would be happy to discuss options for how to best display this info when you have time. And if this would require a large effort to implement, it might not be worth pursusing.
What impact will this new functionality have on this application's audience?
This will make it easier for the audience to access information to help them fully understand the data in the app.
