I think it's often very hard to find rooms on central campus. We hosted the first WiSE workshop on North Campus because we couldn't figure out a good central campus space.
Thoughts, @pschloss ?
I'm afraid all I know about is in Furstenberg, which is generally free, but it is on the Med School campus.
@celticelk Is Furstenberg a non-starter for you, Scott? It would be a bit of a schlepp in the mornings, but I think the setup is more conducive to a SWC workshop.
@pschloss What do we need to do to find out if that room is open on the mornings of the 14th/15th?
I suspect Carrie or Mike, outside of Tom’s office, would be able to schedule it for you.

I'm not particularly invested in any location. If you want to target LSA/Rackham departments, you might consider whether a Med School location is an additional barrier to their attendance. I'll also need a native guide to help with the scheduling process.

I've got Furstenberg 2754 (2nd floor of Med Sci II) reserved 8a-1p both days, so I'd say that's our option 2.
Thoughts?
Based on what I know now, my vote would be for Furstenberg.
Using Furstenburg is fine with me. What's the seating capacity there? I need a number to attach to the registration system entry.
Capacity is 30 and this would be a fairly hard limit due to the arrangement of desks.
In any case, I still think we should over-book (or fill the waitlist) if we can.
The room is set up as a laboratory space, although I think it will be fine for a workshop, too.
OK, here's the description I synthesized from the webpage (and what is the visible URL for that page?):
This workshop will present some basic techniques in working with the Python programming language and the Jupyter Notebook for data analysis. Topics covered may include: using libraries, working with arrays, reading and plotting data, creating and using functions, loops and conditionals, and defensive programming.
This is a two-day workshop; registering once will register you for both sessions.
Attendees are expected to bring a laptop computer with specific software pre-loaded, and to abide by the Software Carpentry code of conduct. For more information on these and other issues related to the class, please see URL.
That looks just about perfect to me.
Maybe remove the "may" from the second sentence.
You could reword the first sentence to: "The workshop will introduce learners to the Python programming language and Jupyter Notebooks for data analysis." (with the link, if that's possible)
OK, I'll get this in motion. Byron, could you change the venue info on the website so that it's in accordance with the registration announcement? I'll shoot you the registration URL when I get it, and we can add that to the site as well.
Yep. I'll update the site right now.

We'll need a description of how to get to the room. I will draft that for the pre-workshop email.
@bsmith89 @aerenchyma If you haven't already done this, you can access current registration info from https://ttc.iss.lsa.umich.edu/ttc/sessions/my-sessions/
@pschloss Do we have a standard protocol for paying for coffee? I see that there's a coffee break in the schedule, and I'm assuming that we're paying for coffee and I should set it up with the cafe in Taubman.
I have a shortcode that you all can use to pay for bagels and coffee. There's a Bruegers in the hospital. Also, you could have people get coffee from Taubman. I wouldn't feel the need to fill everyone's coffee needs for the entire workshop, mainly give them time to get up and move around.
I'm perfectly happy not to set up coffee delivery, if there's not a strong feeling that we should provide coffee. Anyone?

I'm imagining that the workshop goes 8:30-12:30 on Day 1 and 9-12:30 on Day 2. The extra 30 minutes on the 14th will be for installation and setup. And the buffer built in to the reservation will be for setup/teardown.
This sounds like the perfect number.
I'm inclined to try and find a room without workstations, since we want learners to use their own laptops. If that's too much trouble, though, 4041 will be fine.
