@paulbarham: you are correct that user testing has tasks. these tasks can be specific (find directions to a location) or they can be general (tell us what you like or dislike about this application). I like to use a combination or these tasks for my testing. But it also depends on the where the project is in the development stage and what type of information the project’s team is looking for. If the team members are trying to make the site look better then I can ask general questions and test any user. if you are trying to figure out how a user would go about checking out a book from the library, this is a more specific task and would be better suited for more of a target audience. but in general, we usually always get some comments on the aesthetics of the app or website
