Methods Core Domain Name #355

At the last MethodsCore meeting, I was tasked with establishing a better public-facing URL for our website

At present, the URL for the google site is https://sites.google.com/a/umich.edu/psychiatrymethodscore/

The Google Sites support team has a page detailing how this can be accomplished.

It essentially involves two steps.

  1. Obtain a domain name from unit, and have them register CNAME for that domain pointing to ghs.google.com
  2. Contact ITS, who will map the URL to your site.

After reading the University's SPGR it looks like we probably belong as a subdomain of psych.med.umich.edu. While a little long, most folks are likely already conditioned to typing servername.psych.med.umich.edu when connecting to machines to perform analysis.

I propose MethodsCore.psych.med.umich.edu as our domain (note: domain names are case insensitive, but we can use camel case on distributed materials to make it more readable).

Any other thoughts? If I get a +1 or two I'll move ahead with requesting that domain from MCIT and then get in touch with the google sites support team to finish the mapping.

MCIT has established the domain and mapped it to ghs.google.com.

I've emailed the responsible ITS team to get it appropriately mapped, so this should all be settled soon :)

Nice. Aside from it forcibly opening IE, but I’m guessing we can’t do anything about that.

@mangstad bummer. Doesn't happen to me in firefox, but does look like the UMHS-pushed chrome install does redirect to IE.
