Direct integration of Proxmox #932

Open scimitar4444 opened 6 years ago

It would be great if Ravada would support Proxmox directly. What's proxmox? https://www.proxmox.com/en/proxmox-ve Proxmox uses Debian and should be relatively easy to integrate. Proxmox also has an API :

https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Proxmox_VE_API and https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/api-viewer/index.html

In the near future (next version this year.) iproute2 will be added as well. In a further outlook, hopefully next major version ;-) a cluster-wide loadbalancer will be integrated. But first there is a multi-cluster administration. Since I know the Guys of Proxmox a little bit, I can only say that they are really very good guys and would certainly be ready for a exchange of ideas. Ravada and Proxmox would complement each other perfectly.

I agree. Proxmox is a wonderful clustering solution integrating lots of features. If we could install RAVADA in a Proxmox cluster it would be a win-win for everyone.

For the record, this week have been installing a Proxmox server and we started working in this issue. I hope we move forward with this soon. We'll keep you posted.

scimitar4444 commented 5 years ago

That's good news. I had already opened a thread on the subject at Proxmox. Unfortunately none of the Proxmox Guys has contacted me there yet. But I stay on it.

Hi, after a little of exploration we are going to work on integrate Ravada with this community Perl API. We'll keep you informed.

surfrock66 commented 5 years ago

+1 for this feature; we're replacing a 10-host XenDesktop environment and if we could run Ravada off of a Multi-Host Proxmox Cluster if would be a no brainer.

dannygee87 commented 5 years ago

Yes!!! +1! Can't wait to test this!

frankiejol commented 5 years ago

We are sorry to announce we put this issue on hold some weeks ago. We no longer have a person assigned to this and we still haven't find a replacement. Also the main developers are working in requests from our own organization before we can work on this issue. We appreciate the requests and it will be addressed in the future but I must admit it is not priority for us right now.

Any news on this issue? What would be needed to get Proxmox Integration moving?

frankiejol commented 4 years ago

Hi. We had someone checking this out some time ago. Unfortunately we barely advanced and we had to move our resources to other features. This is an interesting and popular topic but I am sorry it hasn't been a priority for our employeer. We will do a roadmap review in September and will try to promote this issue.

Thanks for asking.

Any news on this issue?

frankiejol commented 3 years ago

We appreciate the interest on this topic. Unfortunately, we had to focus on other features. I am checking the roadmap and I don't see this possible unless we are given more resources after the summer. Thanks for asking and sorry we didn't report about it before.

bliblabl8 commented 3 years ago

Thank you for your answer, I'm very looking forward to see this.

Am I right, that at the moment using ravada on Proxmox is possible via Ubuntu vm in Proxmox? The created VMs are then nested, right?

frankiejol commented 3 years ago

I am not sure of what you mean, but installing Ravada in a nested virtual environment it is possible. You may have impact on the disk access performance.

sabirovrinat85 commented 2 years ago

Still no progress?..

frankiejol commented 2 years ago

Thanks for asking @sabirovrinat85 . I am sorry we have been focused lately in other features such as GPU support.

nitar commented 2 years ago

expecting.....

frankiejol commented 1 year ago

Hello @nitar , thanks for the interest. We are using Proxmox too in our labs so this wold be a nice addition. Unfortunately we have other priorities right now. Hopefully we can give it a try next year.
