Editor Auto adjustment - keep ratio/align text when moving divider? #186

Hello!

I noticed, that when I change the position of the divider between videoplayer and text, that 2 things occur:

  1. the video gets "stretched" or "compressed" and does not keep the ratio when changing the divider
  2. The text does not adapt with different divider positions. So if there is a textpart which is longer, it does not get a new paragraph but instead it's just a continous sentence until the end which often is then hidden.

This editor behavior makes it necessary to often change the divider position (in my case) to the right, to show the full text, and then change it back to have an adequate videosize.

Hope that video helps https://share.cleanshot.com/873j6WpN4KXzt9Sr9rTc

Thanks!

Seems a duplicate of this? At least in part.

Thanks for the link, I didn't notice that topic! Yeah I guess my request was more towards the text-auto align problem, since I often use OCR for a few segments and noticed, that to do so I'll always had to readjust the divider, when the text passage of the segment extends much more than the usual snippets. I just hope it gets implemented at some point since I don't see a useful function with the text not being adjusted when the text/editor windowsize changes and it just feels nice to have a flexible design I guess. But just my thoughts, thanks for your time!

Has there been any progress with the fitting of longer texts so there is an automatic paragraph, when it extendts the width of the text field? The newest version did not include it as far as I see it, forcing sometimes crashing of the program when trying to adjust and reveal further text (bug report from today)

Are you referring to something like word-wrap?

ankidoc commented 9 months ago

exactly. because changing the font size is nice, but at the cost of not seeing the whole content atm

Per entry, Netflix recommends a maximum character-per-line count of 42 and no more than two lines, so it would be advisable to split what you have.

Unless you're using Tero for purposes other than subtitling?

ankidoc commented 9 months ago

exactly. This is my workflow:

  1. download video lecture
  2. MacWhisper App for .svt produktion
  3. open .svt + video with tero
  4. work the lecture without having to rewind and listen to what the professor said because I have the text and exactly the time in tero, can copy paste or change things (which I don't do).

But even if, as you said, it makes sense to split up lines, wouldn't it make sense to have an automatic word wrap? Tero is the only program that works so well and this feature would be a game changer. A lot of my colleagues have the same work flow since I recommended them this strategy. Maybe as a "toggle" feature or tick box you can activate? that would be so awesome
