USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference API #11

It would be great to be able to access the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference via an API.

It would also be great if it could be provided in a proper format for using in a database, like comma separated values or SQL files ready to be imported. The currently available "ASCII" format is a bit of a mess and the MS Access version is hardly useful for those of us who don't have Access or even Windows for that matter.

Hi folks -

I'm not familiar with this dataset but there's a new API here - does it touch on this?

@gbinal, that looks interesting! I would say that the API builds on this dataset somehow but I have no idea. I haven't even looked at SR27 yet. I sincerely hope it evolved to this century, because the way SR26 was done was still from the time when COBOL was the most common programming language in the world... ;)
