I’ve advocated for a JSON rendition of the data as it would provide people with better flexibility for loading into a datastore whether RDBMS, NoSQL or whatever.

Hi there. I noticed that the current download format of the soon to be migrated nutrition composition databases at https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/search/list?home=true https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/search/list?home=true are available only as Microsoft Access or ASCII (CSV) files.
CSV is certainly a workable solution for anyone who can't get Access working (me) but may I suggest that future downloads at FoodData Central be available in non-proprietary database formats - perhaps as an sqlite file? SQLite has the advantage of being totally free to use and easy to setup compared to MS Access. Thanks in advance
