support editing of online content metadata #121

from Bruce Godfrey Looks like you guys have been buys – nice work! I’ve been doing a little testing on some sample dataset and I have a question about the ‘Edit Element’ tool. I’m able to get it to work on local files like shapefiles. But, when I try to update ArcGIS Online items I’m not having any luck. See the image below. The report indicates the element is updated with the new value but it doesn’t seem actually apply the change. Are you able to reproduce this issue or maybe I’m doing something wrong? I guess maybe I should investigate if the XPath of metadata in ArcGIS Online is different than that of local files. I was thinking it was all based on the Esri Metadata Format but maybe I’m mistaken. Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks, -Bruce

I can confirm this behavior and add that even Esri's documented tool for importing xml metadata to ArcGIS Online content items doesn't import the whole doc, only elements that correspond to ArcGIS Online lightweight metadata: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/metadata/copy-or-import-metadata-to-an-item.htm So far I've only had success importing metadata via the clunky, uncustomizable metadata editor in ArcGIS Online.
