Licensing issue #2

Open ucchejbb opened 4 years ago

ucchejbb commented 4 years ago

The code originally required a licensing key to operate. The VB code has a flag to turn this off: licdata.bas file Global Const TURN_LICENSING_OFF = False => must be set to TRUE

This is linked to #1. The GUI must be recompiled in order for this change to take effect.

I have the same problem. The Readme file lists "4. When prompted enter license key: CAADV0-R74JM-QXCNP-7EER9-1AT72" but this does not work and I cannot find any work around. I am trying to get to the AdDesignS software. I am using a Win 10, 64 bit machine since my old computer with XP that I used in the past died. In compatibility mode I get through the starting install splash screen up to the point where it asks for user name and License Info. At that point I can't go further. Any assistance?

@WilltheCat Have you looked at the thread for issue #4 ?

Also, when you say it won't let you go any further, what do you mean? Does the process stop, or produce an error? Does it complain about the license key?

WilltheCat commented 3 years ago

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I looked at item 4. I have closed/turned off firewall and antivirus programs and have most recently tried running on my Windows 7 computer, using the compatibility to run the program as 95/ME, under Administrator rights.

The program takes ~3-4 + minutes to load and start. (This could be why some people say it doesn't respond.) The program goes through a series of screens and I have done a screen grab for some of them, which is attached. The program reaches a screen to enter the :Name: Company: and Serial:".

I tried to input the license number listed in the Readme file but it is not recognized by the program. At that point the only option is to cancel the install because the "Next" tab will not become active.

It is annoying, since I had the program operational from another job (~2004 era) but the computer died..

Any help appreciated. Thanks,

@WilltheCat Thanks for the thorough reply. I am unsure of what could be causing the issue.

I am going to highlight two possible issues that may not be the issue, but I'm including them just to ensure that they aren't the cause. (1) hyphens are ignored in the password (2) the final character of the first grouping is a 'zero' not O.

A 3rd case to mention: Are you running the setup as an administrator? So, right-clicking on setup.exe and "Run as Administrator". It could be getting to a step and not be able to proceed because it doesn't have proper rights. (It has been a year or so since I installed this, so it may ask you to proceed with permissions initially. If so, this is likely not the cause, but might be worth a try.) I have the same specs as you described and didn't run into issues, so I'm not sure where this is getting hung up.

Thanks for the suggestions! I am not sure which one made the difference but I got it to install. I believe that the issue may have been with the settings. Apparently when I went through the properties to set the Setup program to run under 95/ME compatibility mode and run as Administrator, there were two places where I had to make the changes, not one. It was like I changed one User but not another - which I still can't figure out - BUT it installed so I don't care!

@WilltheCat That's great. Thanks for confirming that something worked.

I have successfully installed the software, but when running it shows "there appears to be an error in your licensing configuration". I have read the issue about #1 , but i can do nothing because of the lack of computer knowledge (VB6, VB 2008 or more). Could you help me out? And i have installed the latest Visual Studio 2022, Visual Studio Code and Visual Basic 6.0. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Meng
