Each input and parameter in an EMF case has a “Name”, and most of the time the Names are descriptive enough for this purpose. EMF could be updated to append the name of each input / parameter as a comment at the end of each line, so that the run scripts look like this:
setenv SMK_AVEDAY_YN Y # Use average day emissions
setenv SMK_DEFAULT_SRGID 100 # Default surrogate code
setenv SMK_MAXERROR 100 # Maximum errors printed
