I initially liked (1) there, but now I'm eying these:

From a practical standpoint... maybe it makes sense to use the IMaRS website rebuild as a starting point?

or at least stick to semantic.js.

Yes, I'm happy with the way this mockup looks after rebasing with IMaRS site as a starting point.
