python set up on IMaRS new server #32

Does anyone want to stumble through set up of a python project on a linux (ubuntu) system?

I am here to provide guidance on how to set up the l2-processing project. Here are the steps:

  1. [x] install an ssh client (like mobaxterm)
  2. [x] Tylar sets up an account for you on the server (manglilloo.marine.usf.edu)
  3. [x] ssh to the server
  4. [x] understand the basics of how to use the bash CLI
  5. [ ] set up the l2-processing package using the installation instructions there
  6. [ ] update the installation instructions in l2-processing to make things easier for others

(5) above could get hairy but I am happy to hold your hand through it. Hopefully the only command line tools you will need to use are git, apt, and pipenv.

Please comment here soon if you are interested in helping with any part of this, else @dotis and I will do it.

ok @dotis : you should now be able to login to manglilloo.marine.usf.edu. I had difficulty doing that though so instead you may need to connect to the IP directly 131.247.136.228.

The usual IMaRS files are not going to be available yet. Let me know when you hit a blocker.

I have installed conda on manglilloo (see this server log entry for details) so you can now use conda to install dependencies.

NOTE: if you are doing something with sudo you should consider adding an entry to that log about it.

I'm not able to login to manglilloo. I think I may have too many attempts and be locked out.
