Package name #23

Open ldecicco-USGS opened 5 years ago

ldecicco-USGS commented 5 years ago

Before we get too much further....do we want to reconsider the package name? I might vote to simplify it to simply: SWUDS There's no rule that "R" has to be in package names. Now's the time to change it if we're going to. This way, we don't need to keep track of lower and uppercase letters like in "wateRuseSWUDS"

grrmartin-USGS commented 5 years ago

I kind of like wateRuseSWUDS. I think Molly used it on a slide in recent talk.

jshourds-usgs commented 5 years ago

I do too. I like that it's connected to the OG- wateRuse and when the new site-specific database comes out (though that may be in a few years) it probably won't be called SWUDS. Might also be confusing to name it same as SWUDS- which one are you talking about? I find that the camelCASE gets easier the more you type it... Just my 2cents.

mamaupin-usgs commented 5 years ago

Might ask Dave Blodgett and Nancy too...the life span of this tool may spread into furnished data QAQC beyond interior SWUDS QAQC. I will say...it's a long name

WateRuseReview ?

WaterUseReview ?

dblodgett-usgs commented 5 years ago

If this package is going to have strong dependency on wateRuse, then having the name be an extension makes good sense. Package names that convey function are generally good. I like wateRuseReview a lot.

jshourds-usgs commented 5 years ago

wateRuseReview is even longer than wateRuseSWUDS-- one of Molly's concerns. I know there is autofill so that solves some of that issue. I initially proposed wateRuse_SS or wateRuseSS with the SS to signify 'site specific'. I think wateRuseReview is too confusing with original wateRuse pkg. Ideally, I think there should be a way to distinguish between the 2 in the name that makes sense. I could debate on this for hours. The NJWSC has no internet, no servers, nothing doing. You can only sign in to email/internet sites from home... Will ponder other names in my nothing but free time.... ;-)

ldecicco-USGS commented 5 years ago

I'm going to veto "SS". For now, let's keep wateRuseSWUDS

grrmartin-USGS commented 5 years ago

WaterUseReview conveys the domain and function clearly. Also, the new code is all-new and not derived from wateRuse.R. If it in time it evolves to the furnished water-use data ingester, the name need not change.

I tend to agree with Dave and Gary. This will (I think) transcend SWUDS in the future.

Laura's veto too.

rewu ? wureview ? wurevu ? wurevΓΌ ? I could do this all day...

ldecicco-USGS commented 5 years ago

Ha, I do kind of like "wurevu"....but if we want to keep a wateRuse total name connection, "wateRuseReview" is fine, autocomplete is a nice feature.

So, wateRuseReview? Vote yes with a πŸ‘ Vote no with πŸ‘Ž Vote "don't care" with πŸ‘€

There are similar USGS tools for data review: WQ-Review, SedReview. WUReview, WU-Review could work too.
