Site Numbers with "." in them #95

From Mark Dickerman:

We have a couple of counties that start with “St.” in the name, and STN is naming the new sites “ST.”. This makes new St. Lucie site names indistinguishable from new St. Johns site names. The imported St Lucie sites were called “STL”, and the imported St. Johns sites were called “STJ”. Can the “ST.” sites be fixed for their respective counties? Do we need to send those names and the counties they should go to?

From Todd K:

An example of Mark's issue would be FLST.17848 vs FLSTJ03118 which is the next one north.

I'm guessing that we don't make any promises that the first three letters of the site number or site name are going to be unique. For example, Florida has Collier County and Columbia County which would both auto-generate site numbers that begin COL. Nor would there be an easy way for the system to ensure unique 3-letter identifiers, but I can certainly understand wanting to leave the period out of the site number and site name, and that should be pretty easy to do.
